Lynette Morris-Hale creative ceramics

Whether you are an experienced ceramicist or a first-time dabbler in all things clay, Lynette Morris-Hale\'s pottery classes are an excellent way to spend a day. Lynette has won awards for her beautiful pieces, and keeps her lessons fun and dynamic. This allows her student to express themselves and create beautiful pieces using only their hands and the malleable clay. Before moving to Pringle Bay, Lynette had a ceramic studio in Durban and was the chairperson of the KwaZulu-Natal Ceramic Association. With years of experience in teaching and creating gorgeous pottery pieces, Lynette is amply qualified to teach students of all abilities, from the ages of 6 years and older. Lessons are flexible and creative. This means that students could make a wide variety of things during their time in the studio – from soap dishes and bowls to animal or human forms. You may even paint a mug or a plate. Visitors that have a few of their own ideas can discuss these with Lynette and possibly incorporate them into the classes.

Through my painting I celebrate God\'s beautiful creation. Water colour is my medium. It is translucent and challenging to work with. When I am painting I am lost in the wonder of colours as they merge, move and bring life to something of the splendor that surrounds us.

Stony Point Penguins

Located in the quaint coastal town of Betty\'s Bay in the Overberg, the Stony Point Nature Reserve is home to a unique colony of African Penguins. Stony Point offers the public the chance to see these wonderful flightless birds up close, via the boardwalk through the colony, which allows the public to observe the penguins go about their daily activities in their natural habitat, without disturbing or disrupting them. Also present in the colony are three species of cormorant; the Crowned cormorant, Cape cormorant and Bank cormorant, all of which breed on the outer rocks. There are also Hartlaub\'s Gulls and Kelp Gulls which forage in the colony, while the Rock Hyrax, more commonly known as the Dassie, can be seen on the surrounding rocks. The colony lies on the site of the old Waaygat Whaling Station, which was used to harvest and process whale meat in the early to mid 1900s. Remnants of the machinery and infrastructure for this long-defunct industry can still be found at the site. There is also a community restaurant adjacent to Stony Point, which sells refreshments and food during the day.

Bee & Kie Honey Factory

The Bee & Kie Honey Factory is idyllically flanked by the mountains of Kleinmond in the Western Cape and the magnificent Atlantic Ocean. This factory works along with these industrious insects to produce some of the most delicious honeys in the country. Honey has a number of properties that makes it, not only a delicious treat, but also very important for the treatment of ailments (such as asthma, throat infections, burn wounds and arthritis). There are also a host of products that can be produced from honey. These products are produced and sold at Bee & Kie and include sweets, cosmetics, beauty products, candles, tea, and even furniture polish. Handmade honey gifts for weddings or mementoes are also available here. Honey and beeswax is sold in bulk, and honey is available ‘on tap\'. Simply bring along your container and fill it with a honey of your choice. There are about 10 to 15 different honey flavours (depending on the season and the flowers in bloom at the time).
