Disa River Waterfall Within the surrounds of the Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens is the Disa River trail. This visually appealing trail leads you to the Disa River Waterfall, a magnificent and quite special feature. The popular attraction sits below the waterfall in a 16 metre deep pool. The crystal clear waters transform from clear to a fully black mass of water. The waters turn dark from only 2 metres below its surface and result in zero visibility, giving this pool of water its eerie and bizarre feel. The trail, situated along the western part of the garden, runs along the Disa River (named after the flowering Disa Orchids), and is easy to walk, allowing for wheel chairs and prams. A short 30minutes (950m) brings you to the waterfall which can be accessed via a z shaped bridge, originally built in the 1950\'s -the bridge was built to better access material being used to build the dam above the waterfall. Go Sandboarding Africa\'s version of snowboarding, sand boarding is an exhilarating sport taking advantage of South Africa\'s gradients and global gravity. An all over body workout this hobby also known as sand surfing is set in the rolling Cape dunes with white sand and golden sunshine. The favourite playgrounds for this sport is a spot called Lost City in a Nature Reserve at Atlantis (40 minutes outside Cape Town) with breathtaking views of Table Mountain and the city; or the Silver Sands of Betty\'s Bay (an hours drive up the East Coast). Nothing beats the feeling of standing strapped to a sand board on top of a wind crafted sand dune with wide open spaces surrounding you ... okay well one thing beats the feeling, coming down the sand dune yeeeeeehhhhhaaaaaaa! The textures of the sand create a different experience from snowboarding requiring an adjusted technique and modified equipment. Expert guides will have you flying down the dunes in no time, the soft sand will cushion a variety of wipeouts and after a good days sandoarding you may feel like a professional stunt master. Downhill Adventures are title holders at the Sand boarding World Championships and pro instructors using and providing only the best and safest sand-boarding equipment. Only fully imported, specially modified snowboards, boots and bindings are used, the boards are specially treated for optimum sand glide. Beginners to experienced boarders are catered for with no experience in any kind of board activity required. There are no \'ski-lifts\' so once you have walked up a dune in sand boarding boots carrying a sand board take a few minutes to take in the natural surroundings before swooshing your trail down the dune bank. Transfers to and from the meeting point in Cape Town centre (Downhill Adventures Office) is included in the cost as well as lessons, permits, equipment, refreshments and lunch. | Palmiet River Hike Walk the Palmiet River Trail in the Kogelberg Nature Reserve: The River Trail is on the R44 between Betty\'s Bay and Kleinmond, about 100kms from Cape Town. Located in the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, this walk is one that should not be missed. The trail follows the river where swimming is possible in some of the first few pools. The incredible scenery and floral wonders make this four hour walk very worthwhile, and you will possibly come back and do it again. |

Highlands Trail The Highlands Trail is situated near the small town of Kleinmond in the Western Cape. This coastal town is known for its biodiversity and is, as a result, a rather popular vacation spot. This means that the landscapes it presents are quite beautiful, and these are best savoured at a walking pace. The Highlands Trail is a tough two-day hike. The first day covers 21 kilometres, while the remaining 16 kilometres are completed on the second day. Hikers will cross farmlands, beaches and gorgeous stretches of indigenous South African fynbos. Leopard Gorge Hiking Trail Start: Kogelberg Nature Reserve Finish: Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens Duration: 6km, roughly 4 hours Fitness: moderate, this is a good one for families with children Our tip: if you can, stay in the new Oudebosch eco cabins the night before your hike Also known as the Oudebosch – Leopard\'s Gorge trail, this beautiful hike starts in the Kogelberg Nature Reserve. The Kogelberg is a lost valley in the middle of the Cape mountains, one of Cape Nature\'s most beautiful protected area. There are a series of plants that occur only here in this nature reserve; no where else in the world. The trail, which begins at the reserve office, heads up from the Palmiet River valley via an indigenous forest to above Leopard\'s Gorge, before ending in Betty\'s Bay. But not before some incredible views from above Harold Porter. While still within the Kogelberg the trail follows the Oudebos River, heading up to Oude Bosch – what is left of an indigenous forest right at the top of the kloof. This is the only slightly taxing part of the hike. But it is worth it if you take the left fork at the end of the forest to see Betty\'s Bay and Stony Point come into view. The scenery here is mesmerising. A walk across the top of the waterfall brings you to the cliffs above Leopard\'s Gorge, and you descend in a series of zig-zag before finishing in the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens. The only effort is to manage two vehicles – one on either end of the hike. And make sure that you have enough time to reach Harold Porter before their gates close at 18h00. +27 (0)28 271-5138 |

Three Sisters Hike A moderate walk of 16 km, the Three Sisters Walk is a there-and-back hike that will take you roughly 5 to 6 hours to complete. Three Sister is a favourite amongst locals hikers and tourists, because of the breathtaking views of the ocean, the indigenous plants and scenery, and the exquisitely beautiful flowers that have attracted a following around the world. To appreciate this walk to its fullest, we recommend doing it during the months of August to October as this is peak flowering season in the area.
